Here’s how you can communicate using SPOT in 4 simple ways:

Alert 911 – press the 911 button, and Spot notifies public and private emergency responders of your GPS location.

Check in – SPOT lets your contacts know where you are and that you are okay.

Help – SPOT can request help from friends and family at your exact location.

Track – SPOT can send and save your location, allow your contacts to track your progress using Google Maps.

How SPOT works:

1. GPS satellites provide coordinates.
2. SPOT Messenger’s onboard GPS chip determines your exact coordinates and sends your location and message to SPOT’s commercial satellite system.
3. SPOT commercial satellites relay your message to specific satellite antennas around the world.
4. Satellite antenna and supporting equipment route your message and location to the appropriate network.
5. Your message is delivered according to instructions via text message, email or emergency notification to the appropriate service.

Service is currently worldwide (including territorial waters of most countries) except for southern Africa. SPOT has several service subscription plans arranged online directly with the company, starting with the Basic Plan of $99.99 per year that includes Alert 9-1-1, Check in, and Ask For Help.
